We definitely share a lot of the same thoughts on this one, and I really enjoyed discussing it with you as we read it.
As much as I am not good with being freaked out, I felt like I could handle myself here. I just wasn't super freaked out, although it is creepy at times.
I think it is supposed to take place in a fantasy world without any bearing on ours. Besides the mysterious creatures, it's essentially a kingdom, right? There's a duke and a king and other gentry and then there are the poor. That's how I took it.
The ending did ruin things a bit, but I still think it was intriguing and we both should definitely consider reading her future works!Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1682866082765759474.post-30620223507080513542014-06-24T13:47:45.304-04:002014-06-24T13:47:45.304-04:00This does sound unique! I mean, I do usually adore Disney's take on fairy tales, but I also LOVE the darker Brothers' Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson tales. This is the first I'm really hearing of this one and, despite the few faults you mention, I definitely want to check this one out now!Ayleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07639250102446794830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1682866082765759474.post-7470597249302680672014-06-23T22:28:24.831-04:002014-06-23T22:28:24.831-04:00I love the sound of this one, Courtney! I love it when a fairytale is twisted into something scary, because that resembles the initial stories before they were shaved into child-appropriate tales. I'm desperate for this book and wonderful review!

Mel@thedailyprophecyMel@Thedailyprophecyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01516514938771433319noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1682866082765759474.post-1774804174107985982014-06-20T17:58:50.756-04:002014-06-20T17:58:50.756-04:00Wow Courtney this book sounds utterly wonderful, I...Wow Courtney this book sounds utterly wonderful, I actually feel like kicking myself for not knowing about it earlier. Yet, this isn't one that's been given too much attention, so I'm glad you read and reviewed it, Courtney. I feel as if the romantic entanglements may put a damper on my liking for this one--definitely!--but I'm definitely drawn to the other fantastical elements of this. Still not sure if I'll be reading it, but it's on my TBR now, that's for sure. Insta love and love triangles aren't a fave really, but the slow burning romance on the other side seems to make up for it! And the ending that could be better has me a tad worried...but yet, I love a good creepy read! I love a read that uses fairy tale elements, and despite a few tiny negatives, this really sounds like one I need to read!

Guess I better head to the bookstore again! ;)

Great review!Jessica @ a GREAT readhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07554254368211246669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1682866082765759474.post-12409720177838837772014-06-19T00:46:16.236-04:002014-06-19T00:46:16.236-04:00I hate instalove, but I love antagonistic-to-roman...I hate instalove, but I love antagonistic-to-romance love. It's too bad about the ending, though, I hate when things are left open and you finish having unanswered questions. That is one of my big pet peeves, so I'll have to think about whether I want to read this one.
