In the end, can Madeline keep her own sanity and bring the house down? The Fall is a literary psychological thriller, reimagining Edgar Allan Poe’s classic The Fall of the House of Usher. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
This book had me at "reimagining Edgar Allan Poe’s classic The Fall of the House of Usher." It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Poe's work, and I'm beyond excited for this retelling of one of my favorite Poe short stories. Plus, it sounds so creepy. I mean, just look at that cover. I love it! I can never resist a psychological thriller, and I'm hoping this one will impress.

Synopsis
An utterly captivating reinvention of the Rapunzel fairytale weaved together with the scandalous life of one of the tale's first tellers, Charlotte-Rose de la Force.

Charlotte-Rose de la Force has been banished from the court of Versailles by the Sun King, Louis XIV, after a series of scandalous love affairs. She is comforted by an old nun, Sœur Seraphina, who tells her the tale of a young girl who, a hundred years earlier, is sold by her parents for a handful of bitter greens...

Selena is the famous red-haired muse of the artist Tiziano, first painted by him in 1512 and still inspiring him at the time of his death, sixty-four years later. Called La Strega Bella, Selena is at the centre of Renaissance life in Venice, a world of beauty and danger, seduction and betrayal, love and superstition, retaining her youth and beauty by the blood of young red-haired girls.

After Margherita's father steals a handful of parsley, wintercress and rapunzel from the walled garden of the courtesan Selena Leonelli, he is threatened with having both hands cut off unless he and his wife give away their little red-haired girl. And so, when she turns seven, Margherita is locked away in a tower, her hair woven together with the locks of all the girls before her, growing to womanhood under the shadow of La Strega Bella, and dreaming of being rescued...

Three women, three lives, three stories, braided together to create a compelling story of desire, obsession, black magic and the redemptive power of love. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
At long last, Bitter Greens will be available in the United States! I am beyond excited! Why am I so stoked for this novel? Let me give you a list of reasons because only one will not suffice...

Jude and her brother, Noah, are incredibly close twins. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and divisive ways . . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as an unpredictable new mentor. The early years are Noah's story to tell. The later years are Jude's. What the twins don't realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world.

This radiant, fully alive, sometimes very funny novel from the critically acclaimed author of The Sky Is Everywhere will leave you breathless and teary and laughing—often all at once. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
When I first picked up The Sky Is Everywhere, I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did. In fact, I loved it so much that after I returned my library copy, I purchased my own copy because I knew there would be future rereads. It has become one of my favorite books ever, and I would even go so far as saying it's my favorite YA contemporary. I cannot wait to read Jandy Nelson's upcoming book, as I'm sure she won't disappoint.

Eve has a new home, a new face, and a new name—but no memories of her past. She’s been told that she's in a witness protection program. That she escaped a dangerous magic-wielding serial killer who still hunts her. The only thing she knows for sure is that there is something horrifying in her memories the people hiding her want to access—and there is nothing they won’t say—or do—to her to get her to remember.

At night she dreams of a tattered carnival tent and buttons being sewn into her skin. But during the day, she shelves books at the local library, trying to not let anyone know that she can do things—things like change the color of her eyes or walk through walls. When she does use her strange powers, she blacks out and is drawn into terrifying visions, returning to find that days or weeks have passed—and she’s lost all short-term memories. Eve must find out who and what she really is before the killer finds her—but the truth may be more dangerous than anyone could have ever imagined. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
The whole "buttons being sewn into her skin" line promises enough creepy factor to have me extremely intrigued. Also, I can't deny the allure of a "dangerous magic-wielding serial killer." I have yet to read Durst's Vessel, though I fully intend to sometime in the future. I'm definitely excited for Conjured! It sounds like a thrilling read that I can't wait to get my hands on.

Synopsis
Neryn thought she had lost everything and could trust no one, not even her mysterious companion, Flint.

But when she finds refuge at the rebel base of Shadowfell and discovers her canny gift as a Caller, she feels the first stirrings of hope.

Now she faces a perilous journey with the rebel Tali and the Good Folk, who shadow her steps. She must find the three Guardians who can teach her how to use her unwieldy gift – one that it is rumoured could amass a powerful army.

Can Neryn master her magical power to save Alban from King Keldec's stranglehold?

Or will she be too late? (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
Shadowfell was my first Juliet Marillier read ever, and I fell in love with her writing from the first page. It was fantasy done right, and I cannot wait for the sequel!

I just wish the covers for Marillier's books were more appealing. I was disappointed with the cover for Daughter of the Forest, and many of her other books deserve beautiful covers but unfortunately, the opposite happens. Shadowfell's cover was stunning, but the cover for Raven Flight is disappointing. I'm a bigger fan of the Australian cover, but that's just me being picky.

Waiting On Wednesday (33) - Half Lives by Sara Grant

Half Lives by Sara Grant
Hits Shelves on July 9, 2013
Add to Goodreads
Synopsis
I learned that surviving isn't all it's cracked up to be. If you survive, you've got to live with the guilt, and that's more difficult than looking someone in the eye and pulling the trigger. Trust me. I've done both. Killing takes a twitch of the finger. Absolution takes several lifetimes.

Seventeen-year-old Icie's parents have given her $10,000 in cash, a map of a top-secret bunker, and instructions to get there by any means necessary. They have news of an imminent viral attack and know that the bunker is Icie's only hope for survival. Along with three other teens, she lives locked away for months, not knowing what's happening in the outside world or who has survived. And are they safe in the bunker after all?

Generations in the future, a mysterious cult worships the very mountain where Icie's secret bunker was built. They never leave the mountain, they're ruled by a teenager...and they have surprising ties to Icie.

This high-stakes, original, and thought-provoking adventure from Sara Grant follows two unlikely heroes, hundreds of years apart, as they fight to survive. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
Half Lives doesn't sound like or look like a book I would usually pick up, but the dual narratives from characters living hundreds of years apart has me intrigued. This doesn't sound like a time travel book either, which is a plus because I'm not huge on time travel. Well, I did read a lot of Lynn Kurland romances back in the day, but that's beside the point.

I'm also wondering about this "absolution takes several lifetimes" line. It sounds like a unique premise, and I'm hoping Half Lives proves worth the wait!

Why I'm Waiting
I can't handle waiting any longer! I need this right now! No excuses! I need to know what happens to Tris and Tobias and everyone. The ending to Insurgent was so unfair and left me hanging!

And that cover is gorgeous! I love how fiery it is and how well the flames contrast with the water! I'm really hoping this is a stunning conclusion to a favorite series! You can tell this by the amount of exclamation points I've used in this post!

When Bea meets Beck, she knows instantly that he's her kind of crazy. Sweet, strong, kinda-messed-up Beck understands her like no one else can. He makes her feel almost normal. He makes her feel like she could fall in love again.

But despite her feelings for Beck, Bea can't stop thinking about someone else: a guy who is gorgeous and magnetic... and has no idea Bea even exists. But Bea knows a ton about him. She spends a lot of time watching him. She has a journal full of notes. Some might even say she's obsessed.

Bea tells herself she's got it all under control, but this isn't a choice, it's a compulsion. The truth is, she's breaking down... and she might end up breaking her own heart. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
Honestly, I am really, REALLY hoping that OCD Love Story is an accurate depiction of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, aka OCD. As a psychology minor (I should have majored!) fascinated with abnormal psych, I am all about anxiety disorders and the like so I am curious to see how Haydu takes on OCD. And I will be checking my Abnormal Psychology textbook periodically to make sure she got it right because I'm weird like that. I have come to accept it.

Plus, the cover is insanely bright and colorful! And I just love the repetition of, "I WILL NOT STALK THAT BOY." Sounds like this girl is just short of crazy. How could I not want to read this?

Synopsis
Everything repeats.
You. Your best friend. Every person you know.
Many worlds. Many lives--infinite possibilities.
Welcome to the multiverse.

Sixteen-year-old Sasha Lawson has only ever known one small, ordinary life. When she was young, she loved her grandfather's stories of parallel worlds inhabited by girls who looked like her but led totally different lives. Sasha never believed such worlds were real--until now, when she finds herself thrust into one against her will.

To prevent imminent war, Sasha must slip into the life of an alternate version of herself, a princess who has vanished on the eve of her arranged marriage. If Sasha succeeds in fooling everyone, she will be returned home; if she fails, she'll be trapped in another girl's life forever. As time runs out, Sasha finds herself torn between two worlds, two lives, and two young men vying for her love--one who knows her secret, and one who thinks she's someone she's not.

The first book in the Many-Worlds Trilogy, Tandem is a riveting saga of love and betrayal set in parallel universes in which nothing--and no one--is what it seems. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
A MULTIVERSE?! First off, I love books that take place in other worlds. I am a HUGE fan of fantasy. Secondly, it's a MULTIVERSE! For those of you who are wondering why I am so excited, or why a multiverse is such a big deal, I'll throw in a definition.
Definition of multiverse
noun
a theoretical reality that includes a possibly infinite number of parallel universes
An infinite number of parallel universes? And in these parallel universes are other you's who are living entirely different lives? This sounds mindfuckingly wonderful! I just hope it doesn't disappoint.

I'm less than thrilled with the hints at a love triangle, but at least there seems to be a purpose behind it.

I can't wait for Tandem! What are you waiting on this week?

An outcast at his high school, Dan is excited to finally make some friends in his last summer before college. But when he arrives at the program, Dan learns that his dorm for the summer used to be a sanatorium, more commonly known as an asylum. And not just any asylum--a last resort for the criminally insane.

As Dan and his new friends, Abby and Jordan, explore the hidden recesses of their creepy summer home, they soon discover it's no coincidence that the three of them ended up here. Because the asylum holds the key to a terrifying past. And there are some secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Featuring found photos of unsettling history and real abandoned asylums and filled with chilling mystery and page-turning suspense, Madeleine Roux's teen debut, Asylum, is a horror story that treads the line between genius and insanity. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
Featuring found photos of unsettling history and real abandoned asylums...count me in! I loved how Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children had creepy photos throughout the book. It gave me goosebumps! Now, this book definitely sounds like a spooky treat, and I have always been morbidly fascinated with insane asylums. Abnormal Psychology was one of my favorite classes in college. What can I say? I find the brain fascinating. Though dissecting a cow eye did not make my day.

Asylum seems to have all the ingredients that make a Courtney book! Suspense, horror, insane people...I cannot wait!

Why I'm Waiting
I don't read nearly enough short stories. I've always been more of a novel fan than a lover of anthologies, but I simply cannot wait for this collection of short stories. Synopsis
Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it…

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
As always, I judge a book by its cover and if Not a Drop to Drink reads as beautifully as its cover looks, I will not be disappointed. Plus, the premise helps. That last line in the synopsis really grabbed my interest. A world not different than our own? How does this post-apocalyptic world compare to our reality? My curiosity is killing me and I'm excited to read this book when it's released!

So, what are you waiting for this week?!

Synopsis
In the world of Sorrow’s Knot, the dead do not rest easy. Every patch of shadow might be home to something hungry and nearly invisible, something deadly. The dead can only be repelled or destroyed with magically knotted cords and yarns. The women who tie these knots are called binders.

Otter is the daughter of Willow, a binder of great power. She’s a proud and privileged girl who takes it for granted that she will be a binder some day herself. But when Willow’s power begins to turn inward and tear her apart, Otter finds herself trapped with a responsibility she’s not ready for, and a power she no longer wants. (Goodreads)
Why I'm Waiting
Everybody sees those arms creeping toward the girl, right? Just checking. This book seems vaguely reminiscent of Sabriel, and I'm also thinking of the three Fates, Moirai, who spun, measured and then cut the threads of life. But anywho, this book sounds delightfully creepy and just wonderful. I'm really looking forward to it.

A laugh-out-loud, bittersweet debut full of wit, wisdom, heart, and a hilarious, unforgettable heroine.

When you’re a hypochondriac, there are a million different things that could be wrong with you, but for Izzy, focusing on what could be wrong might be keeping her from dealing with what’s really wrong.

I almost raised my hand, but what would I say? “Mr. Bayer, may I please be excused? I’m not totally positive, but I think I might have cancer.” No way. Then everyone at school would know, and they would treat me differently, and I would be known as “Izzy, that poor girl who diagnosed herself with breast cancer during biology.”

But Izzy’s sense of humor can only get her so far when suddenly her best friend appears to have undergone a personality transplant, her mother’s health takes a turn for the worse, and her beautiful maybe-boyfriend is going all hot and cold. Izzy thinks she’s preparing for the worst-case scenario, but when the worst-case scenario actually hits, it’s a different story altogether—and there’s no tidy list of symptoms to help her through the insanity. Why I'm Waiting
You had me at hypochondriac. The title, the premise, all of it is magnetically drawing me in. I hope it proves to be a hysterically funny but also deeply moving debut!

What is everyone else waiting for this week?
